TBS 6-Pack
RIP ARMAND OF 3 FONTEINEN:
Goodbye to ‘Grandfather Geuze’ — Armand Debelder Dies at 70 by Breandán Kearney for Good Beer Hunting. The beer world lost one of its old gods this week when Armand passed from cancer. He was one of the greatest brewers and blenders of lambic that has or will ever be. A true legend. Kearney, who interviewed Armand several times and is very plugged into the Belgian scene, wrote this very nice piece about Armand's life and his impact on Belgium's (and the world's) beer scene. I celebrated his life with some other Beer Scholars by sharing a few special release 3F gueuzes while recording a TBS Family Hour podcast episode, so keep an eye out for that.
BEER FEST I WANT TO ATTEND:
This link will enter you to win tickets to the Firestone Walker Invitational beer fest this June, if you don’t mind giving them your email address. Every year the legendary Firestone Walker Invitational in Paso Robles, CA sells out in just minutes. People come from all over the world. I've been once and can verify that it's amazing The bottle shares at nearby hotels that weekend are BONKERS, so if you win tickets bring a cooler full of whales!
WHAT I'M PUTTING MY BEER CANS IN:
Puffin Drink Wear - They're basically fancy koozies that look like flannels and parkas and stuff, but they're hella cute. Definitely worthy of being a gift to or from a beer geek.
CICERONE ADVICE I'M THINKING ABOUT:
Master Cicerone Shane McNamara Shares Beer Journeys & How to Pass the Exam by Em Sauter. Shane is the newest MC of the (only!) 20 who have passed & that quote in the email preview is his. This is relevant to me and anyone staring down a difficult beer exam! If you listen to the new TBS Family Hour podcastepisodes (more on the way!) you'll note we're thinking about taking the MC in a few years. Yikes!
ADVICE I'M TAKING:
20 Famous Writers on Being Rejected by Emily Temple. As a life long entrepreneur I know a little bit about failure and rejection, but writers truly have it bad. Here's one of many inspiring passages, this one from one of my fave sci fi authors and it applies to EVERYTHING you do: "When you get rejected by a publisher, you have not failed. You have actually passed another milestone. This is a really, really hard business to be in. You need a support network. Try and find a workshop. You don’t want to go this alone." –N.K. Jemisin
VIBE SHIFT I'M PONDERING:
Dear Fashion Friend: What’s Up With Denim This Spring? A guide to current trends, from joots to JNCOs. OK this mostly just made me LOL, but remember the link in the last TBS 6 Pack about the cultural "vibe shift" that's happening post-Covid? If 1990's raver style JNCOs come back in fashion, I'll bust out my glow sticks and that's all I've got to say about that.
Have a lovely weekend, y'all!
Chris
